Myocardial Viability- Assessment and Clinical Relevance

چکیده

A number of important points concerning the application of viability assessment in clinical practice, need to be clarified as they are often source of confusion for practicing physicians. First, the patients who are being considered for myocardial viability assessment should have documented coronary artery disease, with myocardial dysfunction, and these patients should be candidates for myocardial revascularization. Second, the methods utilized for viability assessment and for diagnostic or VOL. 38 NO. 3–4 JULY DECEMBER 2005 PAKISTAN HEART JOURNAL

CT imaging of myocardial viability: experimental and clinical evidence

Over the last decade, imaging of myocardial viability has become a well-established indication in patients suffering from myocardial infarction. Myocardial viability imaging is routinely performed using (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography, single-photon emission computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Only recently have several multi-slice spiral computed tomography...

Late gadolinium enhancement imaging in assessment of myocardial viability: techniques and clinical applications.

Assessment of myocardial viability is of ever-evolving interest in cardiovascular imaging, with major societies having incorporated viability imaging as class I or class IIa indications in their guidelines to better guide patient management. As with late gadolinium enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (MR), assessment of residual myocardial viability or the extent of myocardial infarction is ...

Comparison of the myocardial perfusion and wall motion results by ECG-Gated 99mTc-MIBI SPECT, before and after CABG for evaluation of myocardial viability [Persian]

It is of value to determine the amount of viable myocardial tissue in patients suffering from chronic coronary artery disease and ventricular dysfunction. Having the capability of evaluating both myocardial perfusion and function, simultaneously, myocardial scanning by ECG-Gated is an appropriate method for this purpose. The aim of this study was to compare the results of myocardial perfu...

Non-invasive imaging in detecting myocardial viability: Myocardial function versus perfusion

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most prevalent and single most common cause of morbidity and mortality [1] with the resulting left ventricular (LV) dysfunction an important complication. The distinction between viable and non-viable myocardium in patients with LV dysfunction is a clinically important issue among possible candidates for myocardial revascularization. Several available non-in...

Steps forward in the assessment of myocardial viability in left ventricular dysfunction.

The compelling pathophysiology of the states of reversible LV dysfunction, myocardial hibernation, and myocardial stunning have spawned a voluminous literature as clinical investigators attempt to optimize the noninvasive identification of patients with these conditions before consideration of revascularization. Such techniques have direct relevance in patients with clinical syndromes associate...
